Introduction of Valladolid
City and capital of Valladolid province, 100 mi NWof Madrid. Captured from the Moors in the 10thcentury, it virtually replaced Toledo as the chiefresidence of the kings of Castile in the 15th century.Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile weremarried here in 1469, and Columbus died here in1506. The city declined when Philip II made Madridthe capital of Spain in 1561.
