Introduction of Saint-Simons-Island
One of the Sea Island s, in Glynn county, SE Georgia,off the coast, 13 mi long. Although a resortisland today, it was the scene of much early Americanhistory. The ruins of Fort Frederica, built for thedefense of the Georgia colony by General JamesOglethorpe between 1736 and 1754, still remain.Nearby is the site of the Battle of Bloody Marsh inJune 1742, a British victory over Spain, which settledBritish claims over much of the present southeasternUnited States.
