Introduction of Puerto cabello
City and port on the Caribbean Sea, Carabobo state, 70 mi W of Caracas, N Venezuela. As a Spanish colony it was a frequent target of pirate raids from the 16th to 18th centuries and was a popular stop for Dutch smugglers. During the Venezuelan struggle for independence it remained a royalist stronghold until it was finally taken in 1823 by Jose Antonio Paez.
