Introduction of Goslar
City of SE Lower Saxony, 23 mi S of Brunswick, inthe N Harz Mts. Founded in 922, it joined the HanseaticLeague c. 1350 and remained a free imperialcity until 1802, when it passed to Prussia. In 1807 itbecame part of Westphalia and was returned toPrussia in 1866. In the mid-14th century the city promulgateda famous code of laws, the Goslar Statutes.Long a favorite residence of the early German emperors,it was also the scene of several imperial diets.
