Introduction of Erzincan
Town and capital of Erzincan province, on theEuphrates River, 96 mi W of Erzurum. Capturedfrom the Byzantine Empire by the Seljuk Turks in1071, it fell to the Mongols in 1243 and was laterruled by local Turkoman dynasties until its incorporationinto the Ottoman Empire in the early 16th century.
