Introduction of Belo horizonte
City in E Brazil, approximately 220 mi N of Rio de Janeiro. It is a planned city, based on the design of Washington, D.C., with broad avenues and parks. Construction began in 1895, and in 1897 the city replaced ouro Preto as the capital of Minas Gerais state. It is the center of Brazil’s most important mineral region. It owes its name to its beautiful natural setting.
